2015 Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) Program

AREA OF STUDY: Graduate thesis research in areas of importance to the DOE Office of Science
OPEN TO: All
AWARD: The SCGSR program supports supplemental awards to outstanding U.S. graduate students to conduct part of their graduate thesis research at a DOE national laboratory in collaboration with a DOE laboratory scientist for a period of 3 to 12 consecutive months—with the goal of preparing graduate students for scientific and technical careers critically important to the DOE Office of Science mission.

AWARD: 10-week summer internship program for undergraduate and graduate students majoring in homeland security related science, technology, engineering and mathematics (HS-STEM) Disciplines. Graduate students receive a $7,000 stipend plus travel expenses.

American Sociological Association ASA Congressional Fellowship Award: The Fellowship brings a PhD-level sociologist to Washington, DC, to work as a staff member on a congressional committee or in a congressional office. This intensive twelve month (September to September) experience reveals the intricacies of the policy making process to the sociological fellow, and shows the usefulness of sociological data and concepts to policy issues. |

Award: Fellowships may be awarded for a period of up to 24 months*, depending on a positive interim request from the host supervisor; The stipend is a subsistence allowance and is intended to cover the cost of living in the host country. Global Research Collaboration (GRC) Semiconductor Research Corporation Graduate Fellowship Program Award: The Graduate Fellowship Program (GFP) addresses the issues of improving educational opportunities at the doctoral level and supplying a relevantly educated workforce for the semiconductor industry. The objectives of the program are: 1) to encourage academically gifted U.S./permanent resident students to pursue doctoral degrees in research areas consistent with SRC program goals, and 2) to develop a cadre of the highest quality doctoral graduates for member companies and U.S. universities. |

Global Research Collaboration (GRC) Semiconductor Research Corporation Master’s Scholarship Program Award: The Master’s Scholarship Program (MSP) addresses issues of improving educational opportunities at the master’s level for students in underrepresented minority categories. The objectives of the program are: 1) to encourage academically gifted U.S./permanent resident students in these populations to pursue graduate research in areas consistent with Global Research Collaboration (GRC) goals, and 2) to develop a cadre of highest quality minority candidates for doctoral study and hire by GRC companies. The Master’s Scholarship Program was created in 1997 for the purpose of attracting qualified students who are also in underrepresented minority categories to graduate study in areas of interest to the semiconductor industry. In 1999, the program was opened to women as a category and has since been opened to underrepresented students holding refugee or political asylum status in the U.S. |

The Geological Society of America Graduate Student Research Grants Award: The primary role of the GSA research grants program is to provide partial support of master’s and doctoral thesis research in the geological sciences for graduate students enrolled in universities in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Central America. In 2014, $683,535 was awarded to 401 graduate students (52% of the 774 who applied), with an average grant of $1,680. |
