Become a Participant

We make it easy:

1. Use our form to let us know you’re interested
2. Schedule a time for a 20-minute health history phone call
3. Come in for your first visit

First Visit

Your first visit will be with the Nurse Managed Health Center, located at STAR campus. After completing the health history phone call you will set up a time for your screening visit and consent. You will need to schedule this appointment in the morning, as you will need to be fasting for 9-12 hours. This means nothing to eat or drink for 9-12 hours before your appointment time. This visit is similar to getting a physical exam.

Our Location

We are located in STAR campus building (540 S College Ave, Newark, DE 19713).  There is parking available in front of the building, labeled “Patient Parking”.  As you walk in there is a front desk and a long hallway, our lab is room 128C which is towards the back of the building on the right-hand side. If you have an appointment there will be someone waiting for you outside of our lab.

Scheduling

We understand that our study visits are long and sometimes inconvenient for those who work a 9-5 job. We do our best to work around your schedule as we value your participation in our studies. Typically our study visits start in the morning, as early as 7am, and our latest visit can start at 3pm, Monday through Friday. We do not currently have study visits on the weekend.

Your Safety

We do everything we can to ensure your safety and comfort during the study visit. The techniques we use are validated by other researchers and have been used on many people without incident. Our protocols are evaluated by the University of Delaware Institutional Review Board to ensure participant safety and minimize risks. We also have trained staff who routinely conduct these procedures and have protocols in place in the event anything were to happen. Our studies do involve needles, such as for a blood draw, if you are uncomfortable with needles our studies may not be a good fit for you.

Your Information Kept Secure

Information obtained from our studies will be kept strictly confidential. All data will be stored in a locked cabinet or encrypted password protected computer indefinitely. The data will be stored and archived for potential use in other, future studies. Information obtained in the medical history form is used only by the Nurse Managed Primary Care Center at the University of Delaware, and electronic records are stored in a secure HIPAA compliant database.

Our Inclusion and Exclusion criteria

Each of our studies has criteria for participating. These criteria help to preserve the scientific rigor by reducing the number of variables in our study. Each study has its unique criteria which are listed on its respective page.
