The Tart Cherry Study (Active Project – Recruiting)

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine whether daily consumption of tart cherry juice would improve cardiovascular and sleep health in women.

Background: Tart cherries are a rich source of plant-based substances. Tart cherries also contain high levels of melatonin, vitamins, and minerals. Our previous studies demonstrated that 12 weeks consumption of Montmorency tart cherry juice reduces blood pressure, oxidative stress, and inflammation as well as improves cognition in older adults.

About the study: This 12-week intervention study is looking for postmenopausal women who are 45-60 years old and not taking antihypertensive medications and hormone therapy. Participants will be asked to consume 2 cups per day of either tart cherry juice or control drink for 12 weeks. Cardiovascular and sleep outcomes will be assessed before and after the 12 weeks intervention. All supplements will be provided, and participants will be paid for their time. Participants will receive a report of 24-hour blood pressure, free of charge. More information is available, please reach out by email or phone for inquiry.
