EPA Issues “Stop Use” of Dacthal for All Uses

Mark VanGessel, Extension Weed Specialist; mjv@udel.edu

On August 6th, the U.S. EPA issued an “Emergency Order” to stop use of Dacthal. This is for all uses of Dacthal. No application, sale, distribution, or transportation of Dacthal is permitted.

In August of 2023, the EPA suspended the registration of Dacthal for the failure of the manufacturer to submit data requested by EPA. The manufacturer submitted the data, and the suspension of use was lifted in November of 2023. In April 2024, EPA issued a public warning regarding the significant health risks to unborn babies of pregnant individuals exposed to DCPA and its intent to pursue action to address the serious health risks associated with the pesticide as quickly as possible.
