Andalusia Historic House, Gardens, and Arboretum is approximately 90 acres located 13 miles North of Philadelphia on the Delaware River in Lower Bucks County, PA. The property is divided in half, with one side owned by Andalusia Foundation and opens to the public as a museum and garden. The other side of the property remains private. The Andalusia grounds are comprised of mature trees, formal gardens, mixed perennial beds, a rose garden, cut flower gardens, expansive hedging, meadows and pastures. The property also has a small greenhouse and solarium. Andalusia is managed by a full-time garden and grounds staff, plus additional contractors. The position reports to the Head Gardener.
Interns would be involved in duties such as:
- Planting trees, shrubs, perennials, and annuals
- Garden and garden bed maintenance including weeding, deadheading, staking, dividing, watering, and pruning.
- Invasive weed control
- Seasonal pot displays
- IPM
- Assist with tour openings and closings.
- Greenhouse work
Job Type: One Seasonal Garden Intern position available.
Competitive salary plus attendance to at least one professional conference and the ability to join the Horticulture team in field trips to other gardens.
Candidates must:
- Work as a team and/or independently
- Do physical work including, bending, stooping, reaching, climbing ladders, and lifting at least 30lbs
- Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions (e.g., heat, cold, light rain)
- Have a valid driver’s license and be able to work with a variety of equipment
- Should have or working towards a degree or certificate in Horticulture/Landscape Design or have working experience.
