Wye Angus has a paid internship position available in Maryland, which includes free student housing on the farm.

Student Intern Position:
Open to any college student or recent college graduate.

Job Description:
Wye Angus is seeking motivated interns to assist with the daily operation of our historic Angus cow herd. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in cattle management while learning from one of the most renowned Angus herds in the country.

Internship Duties May Include:

  • Breeding: Artificial Insemination, IVF work, heat detection, and semen collection at bull stud.
  • Data Collection: Animal measurements, feed data, and routine observations.
  • Herd Health practices: Parasite control, vaccinations, and general herd care.
  • Sales: Participation in our annual spring production sale (winter internship only)
  • Pasture Management: Fence building, assisting with rotational/cell grazing strategies.
  • Hay management: Cutting, bailing, and storing hay.
  • Carcass Evaluations: Accompanying steers to processing facilities (grass-fed and grain-fed) and participating in carcass evaluations with University of Maryland faculty.
  • Calving: Assisting with evening checks, monitoring cow and calf health, record-keeping (winter internship only).

Housing & Compensation:
On-farm housing is available. This is a paid internship.

Location:
Our farm is located in Queenstown, Maryland – just 20 miles east of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and only 60 miles from the Atlantic seashores.

Herd History/Background:
The Wye Angus herd was established in the 1930’s by Arthur Houghton, with foundation cattle selected by James B. Lingle. In 1978, the herd was gifted to the University of Maryland, where it continues today as a world-renowned Angus breeding program. Since that time, Wye Angus has hosted an annual spring production sale, drawing buyers and enthusiasts from across the country.

Approximate Employment Dates:
Winter Internship – January 15 – May 15
Summer Internship – May 1 – August 15
