Apply for the Landscape Exploration of Brazil Winter 2026 Study Abroad program by Saturday, September 20th! A few spots are left!
Study plants and human culture (PLSC100) and learn field sketching techniques (LARC103) in Brazil, a vast, culturally rich country full of beautiful landscapes of beaches, mountains, and rainforest. In this program, students will study how humans and plants are connected and learn methods to capture the culture and beautiful landscapes of Brazil through field sketching and journaling.
Students will explore deep in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest, interacting with local communities, flora and fauna. Based in Rio de Janeiro, students will see how the work of Roberto Burle Marx, and other prominent designers, impacts Brazilian culture in public and private gardens. You’ll also enjoy the beach, contemporary museums, art exhibits and various cultural events such as samba, the famous Ipanema “Hippie Fair,” and festivities leading up to the “Greatest Show on Earth,” Rio’s Carnaval.
In Rio, students will stay in a hotel just blocks from Ipanema beach. In the Amazon, students experience staying in floating lodges on the water and are provided meals prepared by locals.
Whether you’re interested in learning how to sketch and draw or have always wanted to see the Amazon firsthand, the Winter Session in Brazil is your chance to watch the sunset on the Amazon, eat at a Churrascaria, and see one of the seven world wonders.
