Brandywine Red Clay Alliance Fall/Spring Internships

Located in West Chester, PA, Brandywine Red Clay Alliance, formed in 2015 from a merger of the nation’s two oldest small watershed conservation organizations, is a local leader in protecting the environment. We organize volunteers for action, connect students of all ages and recreation enthusiasts to the outdoors, improve the quality and quantity of water, and unite our members in standing tall for the natural resources of our communities. Our mission is to promote the restoration, conservation, and enjoyment of the natural resources of the Brandywine and Red Clay valleys. We are currently interviewing for the position of:

WATERSHED CONSERVATION INTERNSHIP

POSITION SUMMARY – The Watershed Conservation Intern will assist BRC in implementing our Watershed Conservation mission through a diverse internship assisting with riparian buffer planting and maintenance, project planning and implementation and record keeping, public outreach and promotion, programs and events.

POSITON REPORTS TO – Watershed Conservation Director

Fall, 2024 (Sept.- Nov.) apply by May 30, 2024 OR Spring 2025 (March- May) apply by Feb. 1, 2025
12 weeks, 8- 20 hours/week, Paid internship, $15/hour

Start and end dates flexible, hours flexible including weekends, but need to include at least one weekday, some weekend dates required for specific events.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assist with tree plantings and riparian buffer maintenance (replace dead trees, remove vines, repair tree shelters and stakes)
2. Maintain and update current content on BRC Watershed Conservation and CWMP webpages
3. Assist with data and record keeping for past and current grants and projects
4. Prepare articles, displays and/or presentations as needed
5. Complete watershed related, mutually agreed upon, internship project
6. Participate in Watershed Conservation meetings and events; such as project and collaborative meetings, programs, workshops, clean-up events, etc.
7. Other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
1. Must be at least 18 years of age
2. Pursuing college degree in conservation related field or strong interest in conservation and outdoors
3. Must be able to provide own reliable transportation to work and work sites (mileage reimbursed for work related travel)
4. Must be able to work outdoors, lift 50 pounds, perform general tree maintenance with hand and power tools
5. Must be able to work in basic computer programs, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and experience with mapping, website and databases welcome
