Swine Production and Medicine Training at the Penn Vet Swine Center
The swine group at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Pennsylvania is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team at the Penn Vet Swine Teaching and Research Center located on the New Bolton Center campus in Kennett Square, PA.
This paid position provides a unique opportunity for someone interested in gaining valuable experience in swine production. This position will be based at our swine teaching and research farm, a facility that incorporates the latest technologies related to swine husbandry.
Successful candidates will have the opportunity to learn and carry out daily farm activities related to the daily care of pigs in the various stages of production, including farrowing, nursery, grow/finish and adult breeding herd. Training will also include gaining an understanding in farm biosecurity, animal assessments and appropriate treatments. Depending upon interest, the trainee may also have the possibility to contribute to our teaching and research initiatives.
The opportunity is a 1-year position that is renewable annually and has a proposed start date of June 1, 2024. This position is ideal for someone seeking a career in swine production or veterinary medicine. In particular, over the last several years, many of our former trainees have matriculated at veterinary schools.
