Specialty Granules (“SGI”) is committed to increase crop yield by supplying agricultural products for nutrient depleted soils, in particular soil amendment and plant nutrition products. SGI is seeking candidates for an Agriculture Co-op position to help build better agricultural products for increasing crop productivity and sustainable agriculture.
Co-Opportunity is a chance for you to learn about your chosen field in a real work environment with experienced SGI professionals. We offer full-time assignments to those students who are working toward undergraduate degrees in agronomy, soil science, crop science, or related disciplines.
Each assignment lasts a school term, and you may be invited to return to Specialty Granules LLC for additional terms while you continue your education. During your assignment, you will have a mentor – someone who will act as a coach to help you better understand both SGI and your work responsibilities. You will receive a competitive pay ($21/per), and may be eligible for a temporary living allowance.
As the Agriculture Co-Op you will be responsible for:
● Supporting the process to evaluate the efficacy of agricultural products at bench level testing.
● Understanding the effects of agricultural products in increasing plant nutrient uptake in a greenhouse setting.
Requirements:
● Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in agronomy, soil science, crop science, or related disciplines. All candidates must have a minimum GPA of a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and at least junior standing (based on semester/credit hours)
● Familiarity with the soil testing and plant growth protocols, including sample preparation, filtration, dilutions etc.
● Proficient with office productivity tools: Microsoft Office Suite and Google
(G-Suite)
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to work either as part of a team and independently
● Candidates must be a U.S citizen or a Permanent Resident
Travel Requirements: 10% domestically (other SGI sites – Waynesboro, PA & Blue Ridge Summit, PA
Working Conditions: Office, laboratory, outdoor settngs
Physical Requirements: computer, ability to make oral presentations, lifting objects up to 25 lbs., standing or sitting for extended periods, extended or irregular hours. Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment.
