Job Description:
The Delaware Forest Service Forest Health Program seeks seasonal assistants for 2023. The primary field season is late May through the end of August, though some work may be available in the fall. Responsibilities will be statewide and include a variety of duties; equipment and insect trap set-up, maintenance, data collection, documentation, insect ID, sorting and counting, tree species ID along with learning signs and symptoms of insect and diseases. Projects include invasive insect monitoring systems, long term forest monitoring plots, aerial survey ground checks, and a potential re-measure of the state’s “Big Tree” candidates. There are also occasional opportunities to collaborate with other Delaware Forest Service programs such as Urban & Community Forestry, Wildland Fire, Stewardship, and Education.
Pay starts at $16.94 per hour.
Minimum Qualifications: Woody plant identification skills are preferred, as demonstrated by training and/or experience in botany, dendrology, or a related field. The ideal candidate will be able to work in both urban and rural forests and will have strong organizational skills and a solid work ethic.
