Did you know that apps on your phone can track the ads you view, offering you targeted ads but also sharing your user data (e.g., with third parties) for advertising purposes? If you care more about protecting your user data than having targeted ads, you may want to limit ad tracking.

Here’s how you can limit ad tracking on your phone:

On Android, go to Settings > Privacy > Advanced > Ads and toggle on “Opt out of Ads Personalization”.

On your iPhone, navigate to Settings > Privacy > Advertising and toggle on “Limit Ad Tracking.”  (These commands might be slightly different, depending on the OS version of your smartphone.)
Rather than defaulting to “on”, iOS will soon start showing a prompt asking permission to track ads. You’ll have two options to choose from: “Allow” or “Ask App Not to Track.”

For more information, look up “AAID” (Android Advertising ID) or “IDFA” (Identifier for Advertisers).
