Blackboard phishing scam

Here’s a new wrinkle most of us haven’t seen.

In this phishing scam, seen in UD inboxes the afternoon of September 9, the scammers try to give you an artificial sense of urgency: “The above URL will expire in 10 minutes after the email has been read.” Uh, no. As soon as you see that, you should be thinking something is odd.

The scammers make an attempt at a spear phishing attack. The University’s .edu address marks us an educational institution. So they tried sending a scam about Blackboard, one of the most widely used Learning Management Systems at colleges and universities. But they struck out here. We use Canvas and Sakai, not Blackboard.

And that login URL? What format is that?
