XPS

X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), also known as electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis (ESCA), is a highly surface-sensitive, quantitative, chemical analysis technique that measures the elemental composition, chemical state, and electronic state of the elements within a material.

The Facility houses a Thermo Scientific K-Alpha XPS system. Instrument capabilities are highlighted below:

  • 180° double focusing hemispherical analyzer – 128-channel detector
  • Al-Kα X-ray monochromatic source with the option of 30 µm to 400 µm analysis spot size
  • Depth profiling and charge compensation capabilities
  • Angle-resolved XPS
  • Vacuum Transfer Module available for transferring samples from glovebox to instrument under air-free conditions
  • 60 x 60 mm sampling area
  • 20 mm max sample height
