Welcome to the site for this year’s Research Society for Victorian Periodicals conference, which will be held at the University of Delaware’s Wilmington campus on September 12 and 13. This year, the conference theme is “Places, Spaces and the Victorian Periodical Press.” In addition to a wide range of panels, the program will include the Michael Wolff lecture, to be given this year by Lorraine Janzen Kooistra of Ryerson University. Professor Kooistra, who also serves as Co-Director, Centre for Digital Humanities at Ryerson, will speak on the subject “Reading between the Lines of Time and Space: Remediation and the Illustrated Periodical.” The conference will also feature presentations by the winners of the 2014 Robert and Vineta Colby Scholarly Book Prize, Fionnuala Dillane and David Latane.
Pre-conference events, including visits to the Mark Samuels Lasner Collection on the main UD campus in Newark, to the Hagley Museum Library, and to Winterthur, the country home of Henry Francis DuPont, have been arranged for the afternoon of September 11. Information on registration, accommodation, the pre-conference visits, and travel to Wilmington can be found on the following pages, as can recommendations for local places to eat and drink.
For those staying over until Sunday, visits to local sites of interest (including Winterthur, Nemours, and the Hagley Museum) will be arranged.
We welcome you to register and attend the conference. If you have any questions about the conference arrangements, please contact the local organizer:
