Genus Kelisicranus Bartlett, 2006
Type species (in original combination): Kelisicranus arundiniphagus Bartlett, 2006.
Distribution: Midwestern USA.
Recognized species
There is a single species currently placed in this genus.
Kelisicranus arundiniphagus Bartlett, 2006 – USA: Illinois, Missouri, Tennessee
Plant associations
Kelisicranus arundiniphagus is reported from Arundinaria gigantea (Walter) Muhl. (giant cane; Poaceae); also reported from Schizachyrium scoparium (Michx.) Nash var. scoparium; little bluestem, Poaceae), although this later record needs confirmation.
Economic Importance
Limited.
Recognition
Among North American Stenocraninae, it is the only species with the forward projecting head and the rather angulate fastigium. Also among North American Stenocraninae, this species shares with Stenocranus similis in having the female gonoplacs normal (not enlarged). Hamilton (2006), based on a female, interpreted a specimen of this species as being a North American record of the Asian genus Terauchiana, a matter discussed by Bartlett (2010).
Kelisicranus arundiniphagus is unusual in possessing a structure very similar to a subanal process like that of the Kelisiinae.
Molecular resources
There are no data on this genus in Genbank or BOLD.
