Plant Associations
Eumetopina flava – Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L., Poaceae)
Eumetopina flava – Saccharum edule Hassk., Saccharum officinarum L., Saccharum robustum E.W. Brandes & Jeswiet ex Grassl, Saccharum spontaneum L.
(Poaceae; Anders et al. 2010).
Plant associations from Anders et al. 2010; See also FLOW. (none in Wilson et al. 1994)
Economic Importance
Eumetopina flava is the “island sugarcane planthopper” and the vector of Ramu stunt disease in sugarcane. There have been extensive efforts to keep this species out of Australia and New Zealand.
See e.g., http://www.sugarresearch.com.au/icms_docs/163505_Eumetopina_flavipes_Dossier.pdf
Recognition
Eumetopina flavipes – and other members of this genus – are strongly flattened unlike nearly all other Delphacini (in North America or elsewhere).
