Americans with Disabilities (ADA) Parking
Americans with Disabilities (ADA) spaces have been designated in all major lots. They are located as conveniently as possible to accessible building entrances and are identified by appropriate signs. Parking in the access way to an ADA space is prohibited and is subject to a fine. Lots that contain ADA parking spaces are denoted on the parking map.
Use of ADA spaces is restricted to vehicles occupied by persons who are disabled and that bear an authorized ADA Permit (from the State of Delaware or another state) or bear an ADA license plate.
Faculty / Staff / Students: A valid University of Delaware permit for the lot in which the ADA space is located is also required at all times. Faculty and Staff must have the appropriate permit for the lot they are parking in. Commuting students with authorized disabilities are eligible to register for a Central or Gray permit. On-campus resident students with a valid resident student permit and an authorized ADA Permit (from the State of Delaware or another state) or who bear an accessible license plate can park in any ADA spaces on campus. Verification of accessible parking privileges is required (copy of plaque or plate registration). Please contact Parking Services for further information on how to apply. Users of ADA spaces located in the campus pay-to-park lots must pay the appropriate hourly or daily fees.
Faculty/Staff and Students with ADA parking privileges are eligible to park in accessible spaces, service vehicle spaces, and unpaid individual passport app spaces provided they have a valid University permit for the lot in which they are parking.
Visitors with valid visitor passes or payment using Passport Mobile Pay and ADA placard or license plate are eligible to park in accessible spaces, service vehicle spaces, and individual passport spaces.
ADA Parking Placard Policy
ADA parking placards are issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles exclusively to individuals with a qualifying disability and must be registered in the name of the authorized user. The placard may only be used when the authorized individual is operating the vehicle or is being transported in it.
Unauthorized use of an ADA placard—including use by anyone other than the registered individual—is strictly prohibited and constitutes fraudulent use. Violations of this policy may result in fines, citations, revocation of parking privileges, and confiscation of the placard.
This policy is enforced in accordance with Delaware law governing the issuance and use of ADA parking placards.
Alternative ADA Transportation. Students, Staff, or Faculty of the University of Delaware who can not qualify for an ADA placard but still need transportation to and from classes due to a temporary disability can utilize the ADA Transportation On Demand application sponsored by the UD Transportation department. For more information, go to UD ADA Transportation
