The English Language Institute is excited to announce the continuation of the Multilingual Student Communication Center (MSCC), which will provide both online and face-to-face writing tutoring to multilingual/ESL undergraduate students this spring.
All undergraduate students whose home/native/first language is not English are invited to use this service. You can bring work from any class to the MSCC, and you can make one appointment a day and up to 2 appointments per week. However, there is no “drop-in” tutoring, so you must make appointments online in advance. Tutors will work on any stage of the writing process: understanding the assignment, brainstorming, research, drafting, or revising.
You can choose between online and face-to-face tutoring this semester:
- Online tutoring takes place in a live, synchronous environment using Skype and Google Drive.
- Face-to-face tutoring takes place at the English Language Institute (ELI) building on the second floor of 108 E. Main Street, at the intersection of E. Main St. and Academy Street. Ask at the front desk for the correct classroom.
The MSCC is independent of, but works closely with, the UD Writing Center. The MSCC provides language-focused writing support delivered by tutors who are specially trained to work with multilingual writers and help them with the challenges of writing in English as a Second Language (ESL). MSCC tutors work at the English Language Institute and are supervised by ELI faculty. Like the Writing Center, the MSCC will not proofread or edit students’ papers, but tutors will explain problems with language, mechanics, and conventions and teach students self-editing techniques.
Please note that appointment priority may be given to students currently enrolled in English 110 (if all appointment slots are full).
Spring 2015 tutoring starts on Monday, February 16. Make an appointment now!
