The Delaware Center for Cognitive Aging Research provides the infrastructure to support cutting-edge, multidisciplinary research on Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. The following core resources and services are available to support the University of Delaware research community.
UD researchers interested in collaborating with the Delaware Center for Cognitive Aging Research can reach us at memorycenter@udel.edu or complete the Research Request Form.
Administrative Core
The Administrative Core is responsible for the overall operation of the Center and provides executive leadership and structure that facilitates interdisciplinary collaboration. The Core plans and hosts seminars, journal clubs, and symposia centered around cognitive aging and dementia and consults with researchers on study design and clinical trial methodology in support of prospective grant applications.
Core Leader: Christopher Martens, Ph.D.
Cognitive Assessment Core
The Cognitive Assessment Core provides consultation for researchers and their staff related to selecting, obtaining, administering, scoring, and interpreting neuropsychological tests to assess cognition, emotion, behavior, and function in the context of aging and Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders (ADRD). The Core also maintains an active participant registry of older adults with normal cognition, mild cognitive impairment, and early dementia, who are available for recruitment into ancillary research studies.
Core Leaders: Matthew Cohen, Ph.D.
Biomarker Core
The biomarker core provides consultation, training, and testing services to researchers interested in measuring fluid (e.g., blood) and neuroimaging (MRI) based biomarkers of aging and neurodegenerative disease. The fluid biomarker core maintains a Quanterix SR-X ultrasensitive biomarker analyzer for the assessment of leading-edge AD biomarkers. The neuroimaging core can assist researchers in selecting specific neuroimaging sequences for assessment on the Siemens 3T Prisma MRI scanner, housed at the UD Center for Biomedical and Brain Imaging, as well as analysis pipelines.
Core Leaders: Christopher Martens, Ph.D. (Fluid Biomarkers), Curtis Johnson, Ph.D. (Neuroimaging)
Community Engagement and Education Core
The Community Engagement and Education Core leads and joins activities in the community to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and support the recruitment and retention of participants into clinical research studies. The Core also oversees the education and training of community clinicians and UD students to enhance their ability to conduct research and provide person-centered clinical care to older adults.
Core Leader: Alyssa Lanzi, Ph.D., CCC-SLP
