Thesis Topic/Title: Electron transfer processes in zeolite pores and the consequences for hydrocarbon chemistry in zeolites
Thesis Description: My research is focused on structural changes in acid sites of zeolites; 1) high temperature treatment, 2) isomorphous substitution of aluminum for iron. The changed zeolites show different catalytic activity and selectivity as compared to the pristine zeolite catalysts. The research goals are to determine the properties of the changed sites, the reaction mechanism, and the molecular origin of the differences. UV/Visible spectra are measured to investigate the redox properties of the sites using naphthalene as a probe molecule. Monomolecular hydrocarbon reactions are used to establish the structure-activity relationship.
Other fun facts or hobbies: I like cooking, singing, and playing wallyball.
