In the first stages of my informal research I had no trouble finding information on Disney movies. There are so many blog posts and opinions on every aspect regarding Disney movies. The problem came along when I started my formal research. The databases did not have exactly what I was looking for. Sure they had a few articles on Disney movies but not enough and not what I was looking for.
I was getting very frustrated and I began to give up on my topic. I decided to take a look onto Google Scholars and everything changed. There were numerous amounts of sources!
I was surprised, happy, and relieved to find all of these new scholarly articles! Who knew I could find these scholarly articles on Google Scholar when I couldn’t on the databases?! I was happy I could keep my topic but now I had to get down to some serious researching. I found scholarly articles on Google Scholar that were useful and even brought new ideas to my topic. I also got ideas of different key words and topics that I was able to type into the databases. So with the help of Google Scholar I was able to find scholarly articles on the databases as well.
After reading many different sources I have found a lot of great information for my topic. I have moved away from just focusing on Disney Princesses and am looking more into Disney movies as a whole. I am writing my paper on the progression of Disney movies, looking specifically to gender and race. From this moment of difficulty I have learned to not limit where I research. Looking to Google Scholar was a great option for me, and I always plan on using it in the future. From sources on Google Scholar I also discovered new databases that are available to us at UD. So in the future I plan to look at many different databases before thinking about giving up. If it wasn’t for Google Scholar I don’t know where I would be! Probably still stuck reading blogs! So thank you Google Scholar!
Hey Katie,
Your blog post was really awesome! I liked how you explained the series of events during your research process and how the memes were blended in perfectly. I had a similar problem with my research about finding information specific enough to my topic. I found tons of articles on space, but nothing in particular of returning to space. After more searching, like you, I finally found some scholarly articles. I’m interested in how long it took you to finally found legitimate sources. Giving up is always an option with assignments like this but I am glad you stuck with it and carried on with an interesting topic such as this. I can’t wait to read more posts in the future and reach your final essay with all the great sources. Patience often does reward really well.
Katie,
I really enjoyed your blog. Your struggle with researching your topic is something I think a lot of people can relate to, and you sharing the solution you found is very encouraging. I will remember your approach for future assignments. You also did a great job incorporating memes into your portrayal of your research process, they kept it light and fun.

Katie,
I thought your post was very accurate in describing a typical students feelings towards writing a research paper. Your memes were really funny, especially the koala one. I felt similar that finding more sources was a great feeling because it made it easier to write more. Your paper looks like it will be very detailed. Good luck!

Hey Katie!
Google scholars definitely helped me out too, I had a similar problem with finding articles for my paper. I could definitely relate! The memes you chose were so funny, I think they did a good job emphasizing your research problems! Good luck with your paper!

Hey Katie,
I found your blog post very amusing with your memes and found to have a similar research process. I found a bunch of blogs by dancers but I also struggled with finding scholarly articles. I think it is great that you were able to find solid articles on good scholars. It seems like you finally have everything under your belt and will be able to write a great paper!
Good luck with the rest of the process,
Megan
