Italy: Visit to Milan

Submitted by Laura Sandu on the 2020 spring semester study abroad program in Rome, Italy…

This week in Rome, I happened to make friends with students that are degree seekers at John Cabot University (JCU). It was very interesting to get to know them because of how different our college experiences have been. For example, I am used to having a close knit UD campus with grass and only students residing in the area, however the degree seekers here are used to a more city-like campus and being a part of a big city. I am also used to walking to class everyday at UD while the degree seekers are used to taking the tram here. Actually, with their help, I learned which buses I could take if the tram isn’t available. It’s good to have friends that are degree seekers because they know JCU inside and out since they are studying here full time.

This weekend, I traveled to Milan with my friends. It was interesting to compare the city of Milan to the city of Rome. Milan is more modern while Rome is more ancient and full of history. At one of the restaurants, I had to order in Italian for all of my friends because the waitress did not speak English very well, which was a nice way to practice my skills. I enjoyed my weekend in Milan, however, I was happy to return to my home in Rome because there is much more going on here.

I took this photo from on top of the Duomo in Milan at sunset.
