Submitted by Lindsay Lerner on the 2017 fall semester study abroad program in London, England…
I have been in London for less than a week and I feel as though I have lived here my whole life. London just feels like home. The one thing they don’t tell you about study abroad is that you oversee your own journey and the experiences you partake in. I have taken the approach of embracing every opportunity thrown in front of me. I have been to the Tower of London, visited Big Ben, I watched the changing of the guards and went to high tea.
I learned that I dislike tea with a great passion. Surprisingly, the big tourist attractions are not my favorite part of London life.
What I truly fell in love with are the little things. I love the fact that London is so diverse. You can hear so many different languages spoken and see so many different people. It is because of this diversity that there is such a variety of ethnic food. I had some of the most incredible Indian curry the other night. I had crepes made by a Frenchman named Pierre at a little shop in Camden Market, I also had the biggest macaroon I have ever seen. It was the size of a hamburger. I love talking to the locals, who always seem to have to comment on my “funny American accent.” I was told that the people in London were not as friendly as Americans are. I truly, do not agree. Talking to shop keepers in Camden Market and people in the pubs has been so interesting because everyone has a different perspective on London life. So far, the friends that I have made have decided to embrace our new-found philosophy about making the most of our time here because “It’s London, Baby!”
