“Understanding Language and Learning”
June 16-19, 23-24, 8:30am-5:00pm. The course meets in Dover, Delaware: at the UD Paradee Center on June 16, 18, 19; and at the Eden Hill Medical Center on June 17, 23, and 24.
The theme for this year, Understanding Language and Learning, includes the process of second language acquisition, grammar and vocabulary for ELLs, developing academic language, responding to student errors, literacy, the Common Core, language and disability, RTI, assessment of ELLs, and content-area instruction for ELLs.
Guest presenters: Dr. Peggy Hickman (Arcadia University) speaking on ELLs with learning disabilities, assessment, and Response to Intervention; and Dr. Luciana de Oliveira (Teacher’s College, Columbia University) speaking on ELLs in the Common Core and teaching genre-based writing
