* Delaware residents are eligible for the discounted rate. Non-resident Delaware Educator Scholarship (graduate): teachers must hold a current certificate as a regular, provisional, temporary, or substitute teacher in the State of Delaware, and must have taught in Delaware public schools at least one-half of the total class hours during the preceding academic year (90 days). Prospective full-time teachers in Delaware public elementary and secondary schools are qualified for this credit if they present a copy of their completed contract for the following academic year or a letter from their principal or superintendent certifying that they have legally contracted to teach full-time during the following academic year. More details. Delaware residency is not required. Private school teachers living in Delaware are usually eligible for the same rate. Contact us to check. Additional registration fees may apply.
Your initial tuition bill may show the full tuition ($5694). Do not panic! The Delaware Educator Scholarship is applied manually after the bill is generated. You can still make arrangements to pay the correct amount while we are processing the scholarship.
** Clock hours (Delaware DOE professional development)
The Institute is free for Delaware public school (including charter school) employees (teachers, paraprofessionals, counselors, administrators, etc.), regardless of residence, when taken for clock hours only. You will not earn university credit unless you register for LING499/699 and pay the appropriate tuition. Private school teachers and educators outside the state of Delaware must register for LING 499 or 699. Participants registered only for clock hours do not complete the written assignments but instead submit a teaching unit to DOE based on the course content.
Candidates for EL Teacher/Bilingual Education certification may take either LING 499 or 699 in lieu of one of their required courses, typically Second Language Acquisition. (Undergraduate tuition is lower but cannot be counted towards a graduate degree or certain salary step increments.) The course requirements are somewhat more demanding for 699. LING 699 is the equivalent of LING 676 in the MA TESL degree. For information about earning a complete certification at UD, please consider the Additional Certification in ESL (ACE) program.
Registration starts in April. If you have any questions, please contact us.
