A 3-hour workshop for grain producers

1. Five Common Mistakes in Grain Marketing (45 minutes): Explore a different approach to marketing. Discover that great marketing is not predicting prices but eliminating mistakes in our decisions. Common mistakes include the reluctance towards pre-harvest marketing and holding grain in storage too long. See how eliminating mistakes can create a solid foundation in the development of pre and post-harvest marketing plans.

2. How to write a pre-harvest marketing plan (25 minutes): Prices are down and profitability is a challenge. Should you consider pricing the 2025 crop before harvest? Consider how target prices and decision dates work together to create a proactive marketing plan.

3. Celebrity producers used to illustrate common mistakes include Barney Binless, Terry Timer, May Sellers and Hank Holder.

4. Basic pricing tools (45 minutes): Cash sales, forward sales, selling futures and buying put options.

5. Pricing exercises (50 minutes): Attendees break into groups to solve pricing problems.
