The Allies for a Culture of Inclusive Diversity (ACID) committee was established in June 2019 by the UD Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry.
ACID’s VISION
We strive for a supportive learning, working, and research environment that is equitable and inclusive for students, postdocs, staff, and faculty of all backgrounds, enabling us to flourish as leaders, scientists, and engaged members of the Chemistry & Biochemistry community at UD.
ACID’s Mission Statement
Recognizing that the Chemistry & Biochemistry community is not immune from the inequities and underrepresentation that exist across society, we will provide leadership and support:
- to educate our department about systemic racism and injustice in the scientific community
- to combat the effects of systemic racism and the “leaky” pipeline on the scientific enterprise
- to amplify the voices of BIPOC and others from marginalized groups in our department and celebrate their achievements
- to foster a stronger sense of community within our department
to provide resources and support for students, postdocs, staff, and faculty - to raise concerns about inclusion within our department, and have those concerns addressed in a beneficial and productive way
- to hold our department accountable for setting goals, measuring progress, and moving towards increased diversity and inclusiveness
