| The Gardens Intern will assist the Research & Development Department at North Creek Nurseries in maintaining the display gardens, stormwater management systems, trial beds, new plant collections and grounds. They will perform various functions to ensure the effective operation of the R&D Department by adhering to prescribed schedules, policies and procedures. |

| Duties: • Maintain site-specific display and trial gardens, including, but not limited to planting, mulching, weeding, and irrigating • Assist in the maintenance of Best Management Practices (BMPs) including a 4-tier stormwater management system, living walls, green roof, and meadows • General turf and grounds maintenance including mowing, raking, string trimming, and herbicide applications • Assist with containerized trial plant maintenance in the R&D greenhouses • Install new garden projects as needed • Perform additional duties as required Job Success Factors: • Is reliable and consistent in attendance and punctuality • Is a team player • Maintain a clean working area (“starts clean, works clean, finishes clean”) • Work in a safe manner, reporting any unsafe conditions or safety incidents • Follow and sustain LEAN Flow or Working Smarter program in day-to-day tasks • Follow Systems Approach to Nursery Certification (SANC) practices in day-to-day tasks and strive for continual improvement of our facility practices and internal procedures Skills / Qualifications: • Ability to work 40 hours per week • Current undergraduate student of horticulture or related field with a strong interest in gardening • General knowledge of perennial plant and weed identification, and has an interest in native plants and their culture • Willingness to operate and/or learn to operate machinery, including but not limited to tractors, mowers, small engine tools • Ability to work in all weather conditions; tackle tasks that are sometimes physically demanding • Ability to lift 35 pounds and to work in repetitive situations • Must have effective listening and communication skills |
