Cucumber Downy Mildew Reported in Delaware

Nathan Kleczewski, Extension Specialist – Plant Pathology; nkleczew@udel.edu

This week cucumber downy mildew was reported in a cucumber field in Sussex County. Affected plants were scattered throughout the field, and severity was low (<5%). Cucumbers were in full bloom and had not yet fruited. The grower had recently applied fungicides (Previcur and Bravo). This is our first report of cucurbit downy mildew in Delaware for 2013. Growers are encouraged to continue to make preventative fungicide applications. Suggested fungicides can be found in the 2013 Commercial Vegetable Production Recommendations. Additional information on cucumber downy mildew management is also posted on the Field Crops Disease Management Blog:http://extension.udel.edu/fieldcropdisease/category/vegetables/.
