Check Early Burndown Fields

Mark VanGessel, Extension Weed Specialist; mjv@udel.edu

Many fields have received a burndown herbicide treatment since mid-March, so it’s important to check them to ensure the expected level of control was achieved. Between March 15 and March 31, we experienced 13 days with high temperatures above 55°F, but also had 9 nights with lows below 40°F. These cooler nighttime temperatures can impact herbicide performance, so be sure to scout your fields to determine if a follow-up application or a change in herbicide selection is needed to clean them up.
