Fruit Crop Insect Scouting

David Owens, Extension Entomologist, owensd@udel.edu

Japanese beetles have begun to emerge. Begin monitoring grape vines for defoliation and blueberry fields for adult activity. Adults will scar up and feed on the berries. Acetamiprid and carbaryl provide very good to excellent Japanese beetle control, check labels to make sure the crop of interest is labeled, pre harvest intervals, etc.

Continue efforts to monitor spotted wing drosophila and weekly treatment of susceptible blueberry and bramble crops.

Stink bug activity in our blacklight trap network is down considerably from last week. Stink bug counts can be found here: http://agdev.anr.udel.edu/trapsb/trap.php
