March weather has been perfect for seedcorn maggot: wet and cold. Be sure to scout stands for signs of heavy seedling damage or stand loss. Adults are still quite active. Any seed planted should have a seed treatment at the very least. For some crops, diazinon (labeled for wireworms and mole crickets) may be beneficial and provide additional SCM protection, although it is expensive, and it is difficult to predict if the additional protection would be economically justified.
