Guess The Pest! June 30 Answer: Gummy Stem Blight

David Owens, Extension Entomologist, owensd@udel.edu

Congratulations to Chris Burkhart for correctly identifying Gummy stem blight. This pathogen causes girdling stem lesions, red or brown cankers that ooze a reddish gummy substance. Gummy oozing can also be caused by anthracnose and low pH, so it is not necessarily diagnostic. Vines begin wiling about 3-4 weeks after infection.
