Congratulations to Keith Balderson and others for correctly identifying both green stink bugs and soybean vein necrosis virus.

Below is another image of SVNV with yellowing veins. According to Dr. Alyssa Koehler, we have seen more SVNV than usual, although it is not associated with yield loss. It is transmitted by soybean thrips, and this year we received several calls regarding thrips due to unusually high populations in June. This was most likely the result of a dry May which caused rapid weed senescence and flushed thrips out quickly. We currently do not have any recommendations for SVNV, and it is extremely rare for an insecticide to be warranted targeting thrips. There is much about this system that we do not understand.
