Guess the Pest! Week 5

David Owens, Extension Entomologist,

Get out your field guides and practice your pest management knowledge by clicking on the GUESS THE PEST logo or following this link: and submitting your best guess. For the 2021 season, we will have an “end of season” raffle for a scouting toolkit for one lucky winner, and five winners will be sent a small jar of locally produced honey. Remember, you can’t win if you don’t play!

We are in the midst of the ‘fruit bloom’, a time when honeybees are happy and busy and possibly swarming. Apples are in or just past full bloom, blueberries, strawberries, and chokeberries are blooming, and blackberries are just beginning to bloom. Thus, it seemed appropriate to continue with fruit challenges.

Why is this London planetree only leafing out at the top, and why might that be relevant to the blueberry bushes in the foreground?
