Hydrodynamics & Aerodynamics Laboratory (CACR)
Wind tunnel

A recirculating wind tunnel located in HAL in the Center for Applied Coastal Research.  Equipped with a large test section, 1 m x 1 m and can reach the highest speeds that incompressibility allows (90 m/s). Pictured is not our tunnel (currently under construction) but a similar facility at RPI.

Water channel

A recirculating water channel located in HAL in Center for Applied Coastal Research, neighboring the wind tunnel. Equipped with a large test section, 1 m x 1 m and can reach up to 1 m/s before surface waves become problematic. Pictured is not our tunnel (currently under construction) but a similar facility at UMinn.

3D Printers

We use additive manufacturing for many of our projects. In FML we have a few filament printers: two Prusa i3 MK3S+ & one Prusa i3 MK4,  which have a build volume of 250 x 210 x 210 mm; we also have a Prusa XL with two extruder heads for multimaterial printing and a build volume of 360 x 360 x 360 mm. We also have an SLA printer: Prusa SL1S Speed with a build volume of 127 x 80 x 150 mm.

CNC Router

A Shapeoko 4 XXL CNC router with a cutting volume of 830 x 830 x 10 mm. Can be used to cut soft materials, such as foams and woods, and some soft metals like aluminum. Can be used as a 2.5d (2d cuts with z-steps) or a full 3d shaper.
