Are you ready to dig deep and uncover the secrets of soil? Our amazing Soil Judging Team is looking for enthusiastic new members to join us for the 2025-2026 season!
🏆 Achievements of the 2024-2025 Team:
- 1st Place in Group Judging at Nationals in Stevens Point, WI
- 2nd Place overall out of 27 universities
- One of our talented students placed 2nd in the individual round!
🌱 What is Soil Judging? Soil Judging is an exciting undergraduate activity affiliated with the American Society of Agronomy (ASA) and the Soil Science Society of America (SSSA). You’ll learn essential field application skills in soil science, including:
- Soil morphology
- Genesis
- Classification
- Interpretation
Soil science is a diverse field with six interconnected sub-disciplines:
- Soil chemistry and mineralogy
- Soil physics
- Soil biology and ecology
- Soil fertility and nutrient management (agronomy)
- Soil and land use management
- Soil morphology, genesis, and classification
📚 Course Details:
- Fall Semester: 2-credit independent study, Fridays from 5pm-7pm (schedule may vary)
- Spring Semester: 3-credit independent study, Fridays from 5pm-7pm (schedule may vary). There may be an additional field trip.
🌍 Competitions:
- Regional Competition: 3-day event in October
- National Competition: Week-long event in April (if qualified at regionals)
