The Office of the Dean of Students is gearing up to find our “We Are Blue Hens” Outstanding First or Second Year Student 2024 Seitz Award winner! The $1,500 award is presented annually in the spring semester by the Division of Student Life to a first-year or second-year student who exemplifies outstanding character by demonstrating and encouraging in others the values described in the student values statement “We Are Blue Hens.” Please share this info and submit your nominations for a student who embodies the “We Are Blue Hens” values. See below for criteria and nomination process information.
- The nomination period opens at the start of each spring semester and the award winner is announced prior to the close of each spring semester.
- Nominations must be made via the online nomination form and are accepted from University of Delaware faculty, staff and students.
- Nominees must be matriculated University of Delaware first-year or second-year students in good academic and disciplinary standing and plans to continue at the University of Delaware and; they may be any major and are not required to demonstrate financial need. They may live on or off campus.
- The award winner is determined by a committee of University of Delaware faculty, staff and students.
- The award is made in the form of a check payable to the awardee and it is non-renewable.

We as Blue Hens are part of a community of scholars that is committed to giving back and making a difference. We create a community where diversity is essential, fearlessness is admired, and pride is born. Our legacy is built as we uphold these values defined by students for students:

Mentorship – We seek to become visionary and passionate Blue Hens who understand our role in fostering society’s next generation of responsible and ethical leaders. We will build relationships that foster excellence, support, and accountability.
It is our responsibility as Blue Hens to enable and empower each other to attain these values. As Blue Hens, we are committed to these ideals and will work to hold one another accountable. Through this work, we are doing our part to ensure that “with a Daring Spirit Bold, Delaware Will Shine.”
