My personal brand is different in that I am one person versus a university.  Personally, I am extremely outgoing and extremely sarcastic.  I can define my own likes via profiles I follow and things that I find valuable personally.  Everything I follow, like, or share, is a reflection upon me and my brand.  I can share a lot more than a university can.  I believe everything I post is related to things I like and want to share with my followers.  Some of the power I project via brands are related to sports, happenings around Philadelphia, being a UD alumni, feminism news, and overall awareness of sustainability and health.  I believe these shape my brand on any form of social media.

My personal brand is similar to a university’s in that I would like my presence on social media to be professional.  I wouldn’t want anything that I find entertaining to be inappropriate in someone else’s eyes, as is the same with a university.  A university must be accepting of all views and tolerant of many different perspectives in order to attract students of the like, mainly perspective students.  I am the same in that I am extremely extroverted so I would like to interact with my audience.  A university could use the same approach in their social media and brand as well.  I see @UDelaware and @UDAlumni constantly interacting with their audience and promoting students which is great because it encourages follower loyalty.

I am now in charge of @UDMBAandgrad on twitter, and I have to make tweets specific to the Lerner College mission and events.  I can’t promote any of my own interests via that twitter, or it would be a reflection on the college itself.  It’s been a hard transition trying to reign in my extroverted nature via social media, especially while I’m running social media accounts.  I am a large proponent of re-tweeting media so I try to keep that to a minimum.  I try to tweet original material or event promotions for students, faculty, and staff alike.  Audience is a key to what you share.  I’m sure this is a key to the success of the UD twitters and other forms of social media.
