Overview
In 2023, a Bruker 5-mm broad-band (BBO) Prodigy Cryoprobe and an auto-sampler (SampleCase) that accepts sample submission 24/7 have been added to the AVIII 600 MHz NMR spectrometer. This Prodigy cryoprobe has two channels: one for 1H/19F detection, and one broadband channel covering observe frequencies from 109Ag to 31P. Compared with a conventional room temperature probe, the Prodigy probe provides 2 to 3 times better signal-to-noise ratio. A conventional 5-mm BBFO is available as a backup probe for the Prodigy cryoprobe. The AVIII console is expected to be upgraded to a Bruker Neo console in 2024.
The day-queue is reserved for a quick turn-around analysis for experiments such as 1D 1H, 13C, 19F, 31P, and common 2D experiments. The night-queue is reserved for time-consuming 13C NMR and some special 2D experiments, generally required for low concentration samples. This spectrometer is largely used to support synthetic chemists, material scientists, and engineering researchers.
Instrument usage is recorded by the ICONNMR software package and further processed for billing using the laboratory management software iLab. Data acquired on the AVIII 600 NMR spectrometer is automatically transferred to our NMR data server.
Training and Access
Level 1 training covering magnet laboratory safety, sample preparation, sample loading/unloading, experiment selection, instrument automation, and data processing is available for all researchers at the University of Delaware and is a prerequisite for access to this instrument. Undergraduate students must obtain a recommendation from their PI to gain access.
The instrument primarily operates on a walk-up basis, accepting sample submission 24/7 without reservations. The queue operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Users needing the instrument for specialized and extended experiments should coordinate with Dr. Bai to make arrangements.
