What’s Happening in the Demo/Teaching Garden, Week of 5/20/2024

Welcome to the Garden. The VFTG is transitioning from Spring into the beginning of the warm season, and accordingly the garden is becoming more robust in its crops.  We accomplished several tasks in the garden today, indicative of the busy-ness of this time of year.

Very importantly, we watered!

The garden was trimmed where needed. The compost was turned and we used some in the new plantings.

We planted Beans (Gold Mine) in the Self-Watering Raised Bed on ether side of the lettuce after the radishes were harvested.  We also planted Gold Mine beans in the north end of the Gardeners Supply raised bed.

We transplanted several types of Pepper plants into the Long Bed middle: Big Daddy, an orange horn pepper; Poblano, a mild chili; and Takara Shishito, a Japanese snacking pepper.

We harvested Lettuce (Red Sails) in the Long Bed middle, Kale (Lacinato) and Collards (Flash) in the Southeast Raised Bed, and Strawberries from the Berry Patch.

Thank you to all the participating Master Gardeners for making the VFTG an excellent vegetable garden.
