What Is the Brain Health Champions Program?

This program builds lasting relationships between DECCAR and the community to:

  • Build trust and foster authentic engagement
  • Share up-to-date information about brain health and aging
  • Recruit members of the community into our Brain Health Registry
  • Offer memory screenings and community education
  • Support local organizations through engagement and outreach efforts

We believe brain health is a community issue—and community solutions start with partnership.

How It Works

We work hand-in-hand with our Champions to create outreach strategies that work for your community.

Here’s what the process looks like:

  1. We Listen
We begin by learning about your community, your goals, and the challenges you face.
  2. We Learn Together
We explore opportunities, address barriers, and share best practices in brain health education and outreach.
  3. We Co-Create a Plan
Together, we develop a flexible, customized engagement plan that fits your setting—whether you’re a local nonprofit, faith group, senior center, business, or neighborhood leader.
Who Can Be a Brain Health Champion?

Anyone who cares about the health and well-being of their community can get involved! Champions include:

  • Community and faith-based leaders

  • Healthcare providers and clinics

  • Senior and caregiver service organizations

  • Local businesses and civic groups

  • Individual advocates

If you want to help others learn about brain health and aging—and want support doing it—we’re here to partner with you.

Why Community Partnerships Matter

Cognitive aging and Alzheimer’s disease affect individuals, families, and entire communities. Yet many people don’t receive accurate information, early screenings, or the opportunity to participate in research that reflects their lived experiences. The Brain Health Champions Program helps change that—by meeting people where they are.
