May 25, 2025 – Memorial Day at Mount Salem Cemetery with the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War
The annual Memorial Day ceremony hosted by the SUVCW Appomattax Chapter, Camp No. 2 at the historic Mount Salem Cemetery in Rockford Park, Wilmington, Delaware. Founded in 1898, the Memorial Day ceremony supports one of the purposes of the group, “to perpetuate the memory of the Grand Army of the Republic and of the men who saved the Union in 1861 to 1865.”
Location: 19th St @ Tower St, Wilmington, DE 19806
Time: 11:00 am – Sunday Memorial Day Observance Service – After the church service, the group will proceed to the cemetery where over 90 Civil War veterans are interred. Information will be shared about 5 or 6 of the veterans.
June 7, 2025 – Wreath laying ceremony at the grave of General Thomas A. Smyth
The public is invited to join Appomattox Camp #2, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) at a wreath laying ceremony at the grave of General Thomas A. Smyth, a resident of Wilmington and the last Union general killed in the Civil War. BG Thomas A Benson, Adjutant General of the Delaware National Guard, will provide comments about General Smyth.
