Job You Love or Money

The question “Is it better to study what you love or what you think will get you a job?” is actually something that I am struggling with now at this point of my life. I am undeclared at the moment and as soon as I mention that I do not yet have a major everyone starts naming suggestions on what I study and do with my life. I understand that they mean well and are trying to help however every suggestion is something well-paying and honestly in my opinion sounds boring. When I explain I really am not sure what I want to do most people’s response is always the same, pick a major that you can make a lot of money in. These jobs that everyone mentions just don’t interest me, it makes me think if I am sometimes just being too picky and I should just pick something that makes a lot of money and go on like that and hope I grow to love it. After all that, I remember that it is my life. I always ask myself do I really want to spend the rest of my life doing something I absolutely despise just because I am making a decent amount of money and it would make everyone happy? Do I want to dread going to work every single day for the rest of my life?
Also it comes to mind that it all depends on what a person describes as a lot of money? What might be enough for me to live comfortably and be happy could be a totally different amount for another person. I want to make enough money so I am able to live comfortably and independent and I think that most jobs are able to offer that at the least, obviously it may not be my first job in that field but after hard work doing something I love there is always the possibility of getting more money in the future.
I wish to find a major that can have somewhat of a balance in. I know it sounds crazy and probably far-fetched, a job making a decent amount of money and something that I truly am interested in. I do hope that I will find a job that I love over money, because I do not want to become one of those people who hate their jobs for the rest of their lives. I know that most people claim that money is what makes people happy but I don’t think I am willing to be miserable every day at my job just looking forward to the paycheck I am only going to get maybe, every other week. I am hoping that I am will continue to study a major that I love and look into the long run of things I would live a better happier and more fulfilling life doing what I love simply because I love it without looking too much into it.

I agree with Lissette’s opinion as well. Right now I am thinking about majoring in criminal justice but I am not too sure. Whenever I mention this people often say that I shouldn’t do that and instead go into a career that would ensure a high paying job. It is hard to decide whether to pick a job that I would hate but make a lot of money or do something I love and make no money at all.I agree that you need to find a middle ground between the something I love to do and something that makes money too.

I think finding a perfect balance between what you love and money is extremely important. I think that as long as you find something in between, it can really help you go far in life. The best thing you can do is to find something you love and get paid well for it. I believe that is one of the main goals in life.
