The 2022 Delaware 4-H & FFA Spring Dairy Expo

 

DATE – Saturday, April 9, 2022

PLACE – Kent Building, Delaware State Fairgrounds, Harrington

TIME – 10:00 a.m.  Cattle should be on the grounds no later than 9:00 a.m. to permit checking of registration papers and carrying out other details of the show.  The fairgrounds will be available Friday evening for those who wish to move in the night before.  Camping spaces will also be available for $40.00 per night.  No bedding on wood chips allowed or you must take the used bedding home with you.  There are no milking facilities available on site.  You must bring your own milking equipment if needed.  Exhibitors are expected to stay and assist with clean-up following the show.

ELIGIBILITY – The show is open to all Delmarva Residents who are owners or lessors of Holstein, Jersey, Ayrshire, Guernsey and Brown Swiss cattle.  The show will include both a Junior Division (age 21 & under as of January 1, 2022) and an Open Division which will run concurrently.

HEALTH – It is strongly suggested that all animals be vaccinated for shipping fever.  Out of state exhibitors will need interstate health papers issued within 30 days of the show.  Maryland Intrastate Health Certificates will also be accepted provided it has been checked and signed at a Maryland show within 30 days.

LUNCH – Lunch will be available on the grounds.

ENTRIES – Entry Fee of $5 per head for Delaware residents and Delaware 4-H members, $10 per head all others outside of Delaware- please make checks payable to the Delaware Holstein Association

CAMPING- If you wish to camp on the fairgrounds during the Spring Show, campsites are available for $40/night. Please contact the Delaware State Fair directly to make reservations and pay for camping robin@thestatefair.net or (302)398-7005 and ask for Robin Rockemann. FITTING AND SHOWMANSHIP
 – Classes will be combined with judging based on both fitting and showmanship.  Children ages 8-21 as of January 1, 2022 are eligible.  The fitting and showmanship age brackets will be determined by number of entries and ages of entrants.  Every effort will be made to divide classes with as equal numbers of exhibitors per class as possible.  The Novice/Cloverbud Class will continue for any child, age 7 and under, who would like to participate, regardless of whether they brought their own calf to the show.

“Best Delaware Bred and Owned” animals will be recognized in each of the individual Holstein Open Classes this year.  Following the selection of the Grand Champion, each of the individual “Best Delaware Bred and Owned” winners will return to the ring for selection of the Best Bred and Owned animal in the Holstein Show.

 

SHOW SPONSORS

Again this year individual breeders and businesses will have the opportunity to sponsor classes in the show. Appropriate awards will be presented to the winners in all junior classes and in the open classes if there are enough sponsors. Names of show sponsors will also appear on T-Shirts being presented to all Junior Exhibitors.  If you wish to sponsor a class, please let Charmayne know no later than March 15th. The fee to be a show sponsor will be $50.00.
