Dear 4-H Families and Friends,

I hope everyone has stayed safe during the extreme weather experienced on yesterday morning. Although the hurricane was anticipated, the wind, water, and pop-up tornadoes are difficult to prepare for.  We are thinking of our 4-H community, and if there is a need for help, please let the 4-H office know.

As follow up from the Delaware State Fair, 4-H department ribbons will be available for pick up from the Kent County 4-H Office.  Caroline will be coordinating pick up times with a representative of each club.  It is my understanding that this will also include ribbons from the Equine Art Contest.

The Delaware 4-H Program is hopeful in getting a few face to face 4-H educational events approved through the university; events that need to be held in person.  Program leadership is also working with the university for approval to reinstate 4-H club activity and will be sharing club guidelines, at which time the approval comes.  We are optimistic that local club events will be permitted to resume, under certain restrictions, in the near future.  Please mark on your calendars, that tentatively judging contests will be offered on September 14 and September 15.  Details on how to sign up will be offered, when these events are approved.  Contests will include Horticulture, Wildlife, and Clothing.

Please note, Kent County 4-H is offering several Poultry Judging Training sessions and several Record Book help sessions.  Please connect to these short sessions if interested or if you would like help.  A virtual Poultry Judging Contest will take place this November!  Find the link below for additional information.

The first Leaders Meeting and Junior Council Meeting will be held in the next couple of weeks.  We invite all leaders and parents to attend this Leaders Meeting, and teens are encouraged to consider joining the Junior Council.  Registration is required for these events, in order to receive the zoom link.

Listed below (in blue) are the posts from the August 1 News Release.  Please be sure to read through these posts for the most current information available.

We will be hosting our rescheduled Basket Auction on September 11.  Please pencil this in your calendar and watch for more details.  We are asking clubs to drop off baskets or items to the Kent County 4-H office by Monday, August 24th.  We are happy to meet you at the office to receive the baskets.  If you dropped off your basket prior to the shutdown, we still have it!  Thank you.  If anyone has other item(s) they would like to donate, please contact Caroline at cadv@udel.edu or  Kristin at kristin@udel.edu or (302) 242-8895.

Although Kent County Extension Office staff will continue working remotely, telephone calls will be routed to our administrative team and you should get a “live” person when calling.  The system should be up and running in the next week or so.
