Dear 4-H Friends and Families,

Greetings!  I know everyone is in the midst of uploading 4-H entry pictures into exhibitor accounts for the Delaware State Fair.I’d like to say that the system has worked as expected, there have been no system crashes or other glitches, that I am aware of.  There have been a few questions about the upload process, which is to be expected, but I think we have helped everyone through these. The deadline to upload pictures is Monday, July 20, so be sure to stay on top of this task. Judges have been lined up to judge the virtual entries, and results will be announced when they are available.  Premiums will be sent as normal, and ribbons will be available for those who are interested in receiving them. More information will come out later about this.

For anyone interested in learning more about the poultry project area, 4-H member Elizabeth Pallmann will be hosting a series of zoom meetings for a virtual poultry project club. Please see the information below, and sign up if interested. You must pre-register for this event, and then you will be sent the zoom link and password.

We are hoping to get the “go-ahead” to set some late August/September dates for events that are almost impossible to host online. However, there is a strong possibility we will not be permitted to host these events in-person. I will be spending some time during the next couple weeks, planning alternative options for some of the in-person events, if we are not granted permission.

If anyone has any feedback on how the 4-H program can better serve your 4-Her, your 4-H family, as a leader, as a volunteer or as a club, during this time in which the Extension Office is closed, please let me know. At this time, the University of Delaware staff are being told to continue working from home until further notice, and it could possibly continue beyond the summer time frame. If you have experienced challenges or barriers through the last several months, please let me know. I would like to hear from you and have some conversation about possible remedies.

Clubs are still restricted to virtual meetings and events only.  No clubs should be gathering for any reason. Looking ahead, we aren’t sure what 4-H will look like on the county level this fall; however, it is my hope that local clubs will be permitted to start face to face events again.  With that said,  If anyone has a special hobby or skill, or a general interest in leading a project group, in person or virtually, please let me know. I’d be happy to work with you to help organize something for our 4-H community.  We want to make sure we have plans in place if we need to rely on virtual programming in the future.

The success of the 4-H program is directly related to the awesome 4-H volunteers that we have here in Delaware. Thank you for your time and efforts in creating meaningful learning opportunities for the young 4-H community.  Please continue to recruit other adult volunteers, or refer interested individuals to me, so we can get them involved.  We can never have enough caring adults, interested in making a difference in the lives of young people.

Be sure to stop by the 4-H building if you are at the Delaware State Fairgrounds.  Although there will not be any entries displayed, there will be a few displays set up to showcase some of our 4-H programming.

Your friend in 4-H,

Kristin
