An Innovative Entrepreneurs Co-Working Space – The Mill

In this program I have gained a lot of experiences and knowledge from the different sessions conducted in class and from the sites we have visited. One of those sites is the “Mill Space” in Wilmington, Delaware.

Desale Ghide at the Mill Space in Wilmington, Delaware.

We went to the Mill Space on July 19, 2018. The Mill Space is a community and co-working center in Wilmington, Delaware that provides shared workspace for entrepreneurs,  remote workers and established businesses. From the explanation of the founder, Robert Herrera,  I learned a lot about the Mill from its historical background to its present progress. Personally, I really appreciated his creativity, work discipline, talent, strategies and future plans of the Mill. It was my first experience in a space like this because in my country, most people work in the government.

I could understand from his explanation that co-working is a new concept of a workplace where individuals and companies from various professions have a shared office space. Unlike typical offices, co-working space are used by individuals not usually employed by the same company. the ability to rent this space is attractive to independent individuals. anybody who could use the resources of an office space. The organizational structure of the Mill is more comfortable for its members and the place is arranged and constructed according to the needs of the members. I think the mill space is a dedicated space and makes the members free from disturbances. As a result, their productivity also increased as well. The members get networking opportunities with different professionals. The mill also has equal opportunities for all workers to become members in this space.

Currently, almost half of those working in the United States are contract workers. The national trend of the U.S. is changing towards small businesses and freelancing. Establishing this space is very interesting for the freelancers and companies to exchange their experience and to invest in a business. This space is motivating for the members to become ambitious in their work. In the space, the members get full access to high-speed internet, meeting facilities, printing credits and access to the community. These full services helped the entrepreneurs, business owners, professionals, etc. to be more efficient and effective. Finally, the Mill Space inspired me to campaign for the Eritrean entrepreneurs, business investors and other professionals to set much better and affordable workspaces, especially co-working, which is important for small business owners because they have networking and growth opportunities.
