Over 30 people walked or ran as part of the UD/DHSS and UD Collegiate Recovery Teams
March came in like a lion, yet the 2,600 registered participants of the 5th Annual AtTAcK Addiction 5K braved the strong winds and cold temperatures, and embodied the strength of this powerful animal in their fight to address this disease of epidemic proportions.
To demonstrate the UD Partnership for Healthy Communities’ commitment to fostering partnerships addressing addiction, PHC formed a team with the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services. This UD/DHSS team, along with the UD Collegiate Recovery Team, brought out over 30 people on Saturday, March 3rd to walk or run in solidarity with the 160 other teams that rallied at the event.
PHC Steering Committee member, Lt. Governor Bethany Hall-Long, addressed the crowd and reiterated the state’s commitment to develop short-term and long-term strategies and initiatives to address the major addiction and mental health challenges we face in Delaware. Lt. Gov. Hall-Long chairs the Behavioral Health Consortium, an advisory body comprised of community advocates, law enforcement, healthcare professionals, and state leaders that will assess and outline an integrated plan for action to address prevention, treatment, and recovery for mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders. |
